Purpose
This procedure details the correct sequence for shutting down and restarting the IDMS services. The services are interdependent and must be stopped and started in the specified order to prevent data loss or system errors.
Prerequisites
Before beginning, confirm all of the following conditions are met:

Administrative rights: You have administrative rights to manage Windows Services and IIS Manager.

User activity: All users are logged out and no active transactions are in progress.

Notifications: Affected users have been notified of the scheduled downtime.
Part 1 — Shutdown
Step 1: Stop the IdExchange Service

Open the Services console.
-
Locate IdExchange Service in the list.

Right-click IdExchange Service and click Stop.

Wait for the status to change to Stopped before proceeding.
Expected Result: The IdExchange Service status displays as Stopped.
Step 2: Stop IDMS

Open IIS Manager.
-
In the Connections panel on the left, expand the server node, then expand Sites.

Right-click IDMS and click Stop.
-
Wait for the status to change to Stopped before proceeding.
Expected Result: The IDMS status displays as Stopped.
Step 3: Stop CMS Server

In the Services console, locate CMS Server in the list.

Right-click CMS Server and click Stop.
-
Wait for the status to change to Stopped.
Expected Result: The CMS Server status displays as Stopped. All three services are now shut down.
Shutdown Validation Checklist
Confirm each item before leaving the system:

IdExchange Service is Stopped

CMS Server is Stopped
Part 2 — Restart
Step 1: Start CMS Server

In the Services console, locate CMS Server in the list.

Right-click CMS Server and click Start.

Wait for the status to change to Running before proceeding.
Expected Result: The CMS Server status displays as Running.
Step 2: Start IDMS

Open IIS Manager.

In the Connections panel on the left, expand the server node, then expand Sites.

Right-click IDMS and click Start.
-
Wait for the status to change to Running before proceeding.
Expected Result: The IDMS status displays as Running.
Step 3: Start the IdExchange Service

In the Services console, locate IdExchange Service in the list.

Right-click IdExchange Service and click Start.

Wait for the status to change to Running.
Expected Result: The IdExchange Service status displays as Running. All services are now operational.
Restart Validation Checklist
Confirm each item before closing the procedure:

CMS Server is Running

Confirmed with a test user that the system is accessible
Troubleshooting
A service fails to stop Wait 60 seconds and try again. If it remains unresponsive, escalate to your system administrator.
A service fails to start Check the Windows Event Viewer for error details. Do not attempt to start dependent services until the issue is resolved.
Services start but users cannot connect Verify that all three services show Running and confirm network connectivity. Escalate if the issue persists.
