How to Log Into IDMS (Identity Management System)
Purpose
This guide will help you access the IDMS system using your smart card. You will learn how to open the IDMS website and complete the login process.
Prerequisites
Before you begin, make sure you have:
[ ] Your IDMS URL from your system administrator (example: https://id.cyberarmed.com:444/idms)
[ ] A PIV card (smart card)
[ ] A smart card reader connected to your computer
[ ] Your PIV card inserted into the smart card reader
[ ] Microsoft Edge or another compatible web browser
Steps to Log Into IDMS
Step 1: Open Your Web Browser
Click on the Microsoft Edge icon in your taskbar at the bottom of your screen.
Wait for the browser window to open completely.
Expected Result: A new browser window opens showing the Edge home page.
Step 2: Navigate to the IDMS Website
Click in the address bar at the top of the browser window.
Type or paste your IDMS URL (for example:
https://id.cyberarmed.com:444/idms).Press Enter on your keyboard.
Wait 5-10 seconds for the page to load.
Expected Result: The Windows Security dialog box appears with the title "Smart Card" asking you to select a smart card device.
Step 3: Select Your Smart Card
In the Windows Security dialog box, look under "Select a smart card device."
Find your smart card reader in the list (it may show as "OMNIKEY CardMan 3x21 0" or a similar name).
If your smart card is not automatically detected, insert your PIV card into the smart card reader now.
Click the OK button at the bottom of the dialog box.
Expected Result: The system processes your smart card credentials and logs you into IDMS. You will be taken to the IDMS home page or dashboard.
Validation Checklist
After completing these steps, verify that:
[ ] The IDMS website has loaded in your browser
[ ] You see the IDMS dashboard or home page (not a login screen)
[ ] The URL in the address bar matches your IDMS URL
[ ] No error messages are displayed
Troubleshooting
Problem: The "Connect a smart card" message appears, but no card reader is listed.
Solution:
Check that your smart card reader is properly connected to your computer via USB
Try unplugging and reconnecting the smart card reader
Make sure your PIV card is fully inserted into the reader
Problem: You receive an error message after clicking OK.
Solution:
Verify that you are using the correct IDMS URL provided by your administrator
Check that your PIV card is not expired
Try removing and reinserting your PIV card
Contact your system administrator if the problem persists
Problem: The Windows Security dialog doesn't appear.
Solution:
Wait a few more seconds as the page may still be loading
Refresh the browser page by pressing F5
Try closing the browser and starting over from Step 1
